The Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, is launching an online interactive microscopy program for practicing pathologists or pathologists-in-training in the MENA region countries. The program is endorsed by the Arab Division of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP-AD). This CME program is officially registered for CME certification with the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD) office of Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (KIMS) under the registration number: 004914 / HPC3 / Sep23. The program will award 1 category 1 CME certificate to attending pathologists. The program is coordinated and run by Dr Sundus Hussein, a senior pathologist at Kuwait University. The program will invite internationally renowned pathologists in various fields of pathology to link online with the registered participants to demonstrate live pathology cases from their practice using either a projection of interesting pathology slides directly from a light microscope linked to the internet or via scanned high-resolution Whole Slide Images (WSI). Participants can post questions to the speakers during the educational session.

The objectives of the program:

  • Enable junior pathologists to gain knowledge and expertise in handling complex pathology cases based on the advice and experience of experts.
  • Introduce pathologists to up-to-date changes in the practice and reporting of pathology specimens.
  • Encourage continuous education among residents in the field of pathology/cytology.
  • Provide a chance to interact with international experts from various centers to discuss the modern pathology practice in their respective fields of interest.
  • Emphasize the practical aspects of routine pathology specimen handling, ancillary tests and reporting.
